PUBLIC RELATIONS / GOVERNMENT RELATIONS / REPORT WRITING: Releasing a State of Heritage Report
The 2015 State of Heritage Report was released to media and government stakeholders by Heritage Toronto and the Toronto Historical Association with thanks to generous support from The McLean Foundation. The purpose of the State of Heritage Report is to:
- provide a picture of the current state of heritage in Toronto;
- lay out goals for strengthening the heritage sector and its four pillars of natural, architectural, cultural and archaeological heritage;
- provide recommendations to the Mayor, City Council, senior staff and decision makers to improve resource allocation within the sector (including financial resources, human resources, and the resource of political will).
Numerous consultations were held across the city to help put together a Report that is inclusive of a variety of voices.
A public Mayoral Debate on heritage with candidates running for the Mayoral post was held prior to the release of the report. Over 225 people attended.
The Report and the Debate received widespread news coverage, with over 15 hits including CP24, CTV, CBC TV News, CBC Radio Metro Morning, Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Urban Toronto, and Daily Commercial News.
I was responsible for assisting with the production of and media publicity for the Debate; for hiring/supervising contract staff for the Report including a Researcher, Writer, Editor, and Designer; and for organizing a media and councillor briefing at City Hall, which 13 media contacts attended, for the release of the Report. I also did light research and editing for the report myself.
